About

Growing up in Southern Appalachia and watching FernGully were two things that made lasting impressions on me. I spent summers hearing birds and cicadas, looking for frogs, lizards, and bugs, and seeing the sunsets and lightning bugs magically light up the sky. I still enjoy all of these experiences, and they inspire all of my work.
I use bright colors inspired by what I see and feel during special moments or parts of memories. I paint multiple canvases at a time to avoid getting too worried about making mistakes as I try to express the beauty and magic of nature. I add native plants that support species I love, like lightning bugs.
The goal of my work is to help people see and remember the beauty of nature—everything from the endless skies to the smallest of bugs. Maybe by doing so, one more person will be willing to pick up a piece of trash they see on a walk, get involved with Friends of the James River Park, or learn more ways to reduce their carbon footprint.
